Before taking measures to reduce greenhouse gases, companies must begin by understanding the volumes issued. To guide them in this task, Software editors have designed tools to collect, monitor and analyze emissions of these gases cursed. A french company named Enablon is the world’s leading provider of Corporate Responsibility software and on-demand solutions. With solutions in use by more than 200 global companies and 150,000 users, Enablon has become one of the most recognized references for companies wishing to meet today’s most pressing sustainability challenges.
Today, Enablon offers integrated software solutions and on-demand services for: Corporate responsibility, Quality, environment, health, safety (QEHS) management, Risk, internal audit & control and business continuity management, Corporate governance and legal management
Enablon has unveiled its new module-MS Enablon GHG (Greenhouse Gas – Management System). The measures administered in Enablon GHG-MS fall into three categories.
- The first includes the direct GHG emissions by the company, through its factories, its fleet of vehicles, etc.
- The second covers indirect emissions caused by its power purchases from external operators.
- As to the third category, it is the emissions, they also indirectly caused by the supply chain – upstream and downstream – of the company.

The scope of Enablon software intervention exceeds the boundaries of the enterprise. This is to assess the overall responsibility of an organization’s GHG. This tool integrates about twenty methodologies for calculating GHG.To reflect the concept of extended enterprise, Enablon has sought to consolidate and facilitate the harmonization of rules for calculating GHG emissions from one industry to another. “The tool incorporates default twenty methodology for calculating greenhouse gas,” says Philippe Tesler.

The software module of the editor is also based on Carbon ADEME the methodology. Other methodological approach resulted in Enablon major GHG-MS: one defined by the CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project). The collection, calculation and the report of GHGs will be based on the methodology used by the final user.
Enablon GHG-MS can now guide the company in an action plan to reduce GHG emissions. Setting such targets for the reduction, is embarking on a project in which the company agrees to “benchmark” its different activities, factories, subsidiaries …
Enablon solutions are used by more than 120 global companies such as Alcatel-Lucent, Avon, AXA, Beiersdorf, Cadbury Schweppes, Canon, Covidien, Danone, Del Monte, Dell, Estée Lauder, L’Oréal, LVMH, McGraw-Hill, Renault, Reuters, Seagate, Symantec, Texas Instruments, Thomson, Timberland, TNT, Toshiba and Total.

In France, some fast growing startups such as Verteego or CarbonPlay also offer innovative carbon management solutions that are more flexible and user friendly than old-fashioned corporated solutions like Enablon and offer a higher number of functions as they are only focused on carbon management solutions instead of the whole spectrum of corporate responsibility.
They’d be worth an dedicated post I’d suggest.
